The brief
From context to system.
Overview
Aurora is a headless e-commerce experience built on Next.js and a custom design system. I led the motion language and the performance budget, landing a 98 Lighthouse score across the board.
Background
The existing storefront had grown slowly and inconsistently, making campaign launches difficult and mobile browsing frustrating.
Challenge
Rebuild the shopping experience without disrupting catalog operations, while improving perceived speed across low-end devices.
Goals
Create a flexible commerce foundation, make product discovery feel immediate, and give the content team reusable campaign tools.
Core solution
A headless storefront with a tokenized design system, server-rendered catalog pages and a restrained motion language tied to shopping intent.
Process
I mapped the highest-friction journeys, prototyped navigation and cart transitions, then established performance budgets before production implementation.
Technical architecture
Next.js storefront, typed commerce API adapters, edge-cached catalog responses and GSAP timelines isolated to client interaction boundaries.
Key capabilities
- Composable campaign pages
- Predictive product search
- Persistent cart
- Motion design system
Overall outcome
The new system gave the team a faster storefront and a reusable foundation for seasonal launches without rebuilding page layouts.
What I learned
Performance constraints work best when they become design inputs early, not technical cleanup at the end.
